About The Arnold P. Gold Foundation

The Arnold P. Gold Foundation champions the human connection in health care. They engage schools and their students, health systems, companies, and individual clinicians in the joy and meaning of humanistic health care. The Gold Foundation instituted the White Coat Ceremony as a way to emphasize humanism in medicine at the very start of medical education. The White Coat Ceremony was initiated in 1993 at Columbia University, and in just a few years, the ceremony was adopted by nearly every medical school in North America. The Gold Foundation has also expanded the White Coat Ceremony to more than 300 nursing schools.
