Henry Schein carries a wide variety of vaccines including Pneumovax® 23. Pneumovax® 23 helps protect against pneumococcal disease caused by the 23 serotypes contained in the vaccine. Persons aged 50 to 64 years commonly have chronic illnesses and may be at increased risk for invasive pneumococcal disease or persons aged ≥ 2 years who are at increased risk for pneumococcal disease.
Invasive pneumococcal disease is a serious threat. Pneumovax® 23 is not approved for use in children younger than 2 years of age because children in this age group do not develop an effective immune response to capsular types contained in the polysaccharide vaccine.
Do not administer Pneumovax® 23 to individuals with a history of a hypersensitivity reaction to any component of the vaccine.
PNEUMOVAX® 23 may not be effective in preventing pneumococcal meningitis in patients who have chronic Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage resulting from congenital lesions, skull fractures, or neurosurgical procedures.
