Wounds

Wounds are defined as any injury to the skin and can be either open or closed.

We will be addressing open wounds which can be classified as clean, contaminated, infected or colonized. An open wound is any break in the integrity of the skin and can put the person at risk for infection.

Treatment Best Practices:

  1. The wound should be cleaned first and any debris removed. SilvrSTAT® should then be applied to prevent infection including MRSA and to promote healing. With the proliferation in MRSA, HAI, and CAI infections, it is very important to choose a topical antimicrobial that is active and effective that does not promote bacterial resistance. SilvrSTAT® will also keep the area moist which is also important for proper wound healing.
  2. A sterile dressing or adhesive bandage may be applied to help protect the area while it heals. SilvrSTAT® will also help with the pain that may be caused by the injury. Excessive pain should be treated with oral analgesics when indicated.
  3. Depending on the severity of the wound, SilvrSTAT® can be applied just once a day or once every 3 days compared to other silver products that are applied 2-3 times a day and is reimbursable as a clear hydrogel by the ounce under HCPCS Code #A6248.
  4. Continue daily until the wound is healed or at the direction of the healthcare prescriber.
